Interview with Glide Undergrouond >1.) What got you started in the programing business and for what reason? It was a way of dealing with graduate school. I was pretty unhappy there, so I wrote Exile to have something fun to do. Then I released it and, go figure, it sold, so I quite and started to write games full-time. >2.) Why do you choose to have both Mac and PC versions of your games Because I like to make lots of money. Porting a game doubles the profit for far less than double the amount of work. >, is PC >or Mac your primary source of programing? I do most of the work on the Mac. >3.) What makes you feel that Nethergate is better than the mix of other >RPG's on the market? I can't really say it's better ... that's really something for people's personal preferences to decide. But it's got a really great plot and very ingenious adventure designs, with lots of special encounters and characters and interesting tactical situations. It's a great game for anyone who doesn't absolutely demand state of the art graphics. >4.) What is one major advantage to being a smaller company? Speed. We can turn on a dime. There is very little overhead lost in terms of meetings. We can make major decisions and act on them very quickly. >5.) If you aren't already on the commercial market (PC Stores, i.e. >CompUSA), do you plan to? If so, when? Definitely not. The shrinkwrapped game market is very cutthroat and difficult right now, and there's not really room on store shelves for retro games like mine. >6.) Do you plan to add any form of 3D Accelerated graphics or a 3D sound >engine into any of your newer upcoming games? Nope. >7.) Do you plan to move away from the RPG genre and explore other forms of >PC/Mac games? If so, what kind? It's too early to say for sure, but there's a very good chance that one of our next games will be a real-time science fiction rpg, similar to Baldur's Gate in look and feel. >8.) How do you feel your game(s) compete with other commercial software >(i.e. Diablo II, Baldur's Gate, Fallout)? I honestly do think our games are just as fun, and provide just as much play time and enjoyment for the gaming dollar. The graphics are rougher, but there are other advantages. And, of course, my games run on older machines. >9.) Alrighty, I would like to thank you for your time, and may your business >thrive! Thanks! We'll do our best. - Jeff Vogel Spiderweb Software, Inc. http://www.spidweb.com
